The purpose of the GeoSphere Project was to make complex global systems understandable. They used technology for creating visualizations that illustrate and enhance our understanding the map of earth process. By visualizing and understanding these processes we can evolve from Google Earth Maps resources users to Earth resource managers. The founder of the map of earth project was Tom Van Sant, a Los Angeles based artist and sculptor.
“Van Sants’ professional skills and intellectual interests range to architectural design, city planning, art education and advanced technical invention. His large scale conceptual art projects of the 1980’s led to the creation of The GeoSphere Project, an ambitious environmental display system designed to illustrate the issues of Earth resource management.” -www.geosphere.com
