Richard Branson and Google Earth
Some time ago, mega adventurer Steve Fossett went missing in the Nevada desert on a routine flight. It caused havoc throughout the world since Fossett is regarded as an idol of adventurers and the man has single handedly executed feats for which he could be easily regarded as one of the best adventurers ever.
Now, he was on a routine flight through the Nevada desert, and went missing. Richard Branson now has approached Google and their product Google Earth wanting to trace Fossett. He wants to get images of the Nevada desert which Google has snapped since Fossett went missing and then look into them for his traces.
We at ESM have thought about this, and unfortunately it seems that Branson will not be able to find Fossett in this way, because:
- Google does not have its own satellites to snap pictures
- Google does not take pictures everyday of the whole world
- It’d be a futile exercise with little chances of any result
A better way of actually tracing fossett for Branson would be to get helicopters to raid the nevada desert and try to get something out of that. Because Google earth is not going to help him. The people might co-operate but it wont be of help. However it has been heard that NASA regularly takes snaps of the entire world. Making them available on its World View software. That might be of Branson’s help.
Whatever so! We just hope Fossett is safe and sound wherever he is.
